MAGNETIC! HATCH! a Magnetic Battery Door Adapter for Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II and EP-1320 Medieval
In the 90’s AAA Batteries (and AA) powered our childhood, keeping our GAME-BOY and Walkman powered up and immersing us in new worlds of pixel art, 8-bit music, and a connection to pop-culture. Precious and tactile, it’s wonderful to use these cells to keep our K.O. II powered up today!
The idea for this product started with the question, “How could the friction fit battery door on the K.O. II be converted to a magnetic attaching version?” Well, here’s exactly that! With two brackets that have a total of 8 press-fit rare earth, neodymium magnets you now can outfit your K.O. II with a MAGNETIC! HATCH!
This upgrade makes the batteries easy and satisfying to swap whenever you need to, and help take the mechanical stress off of the battery door when it’s repeatedly being taken on and off, to help extend the service life of your device and keep the music going! The MAGNETIC! HATCH! raises the battery door making it 4.8mm taller than before, which makes it easier to remove from any angle, but also increases the thickness a bit in this area.
So how strong are the magnets? Check out the video for a better feel, but they are strong and keep the door on even while shaking the sampler. Perfect for studio use and it will stay in place in your bag during a commute, but they’re not as strong as the friction fit original door so putting your sampler in the TE K.O. II Soft Case or the laptop pocket of your bag is best for extra security.
The MAGNETIC! HATCH! includes a bottom bracket that you snap in place on the K.O. II just above the batteries, then the K.O. II battery door attaches to top bracket in the same familiar way. Once installed, these brackets are held in place strongly with side to side alignment features to keep the door in place. A MODULE! labs branded guitar pick is included to help remove the batteries and also for easy removal of the MAGNETIC! HATCH! from K.O. II. When the MAGNETIC! HATCH! is installed, the battery door now has 2 storage compartments allowing you to store the guitar pick, a sticker, your latest fortune, or full size SD card of audio samples inside the battery compartment of the K.O. II! Check out the video for the installation and removal process!
